It is a little gem this work of seemingly random features, but of extreme graphic conciseness. Conti’s wisdom consists in translating with masterly freshness, directly on canvas, the drawing in the same way as if he were tracing it on paper, in the many small notebooks on which he exercises his expert hand. Sketch and finished coincide perfectly. The oil, spread by scratching, leaves the mark free to adhere or slip on the support and achieves an extreme variability of tension, which allows Conti to extend his expressive range to even minimal vibrations and variations.
