oil on canvas, 200×149.5 cm

signed and dated lower right ’84 P. Conti

II motif of the heraldic figure, which Conti has been developing for more than a decade, is found to be extraordinarily enhanced, in the case of The Plumb line, by the unusually large size of the painting, which highlights the hieratic character of the composition. Along the almost invisible axis of the golden thread, which seems to want to emblematically reunite intellectual and carnal spheres, high and low in the work, the figure gathers into itself, accentuating through position its apparent function as the regulator of human destiny.
