Mother Reading is part of a cycle of works made in electric light in the early 1940s, trying to derive a different relationship between matter and color. Except for this one, they were exhibited in the two shows held in 1941 and 1943 at the Florence Gallery together with Giorgio de Chirico and testify, in those years of the greatest expansion of “beautiful” painting, to a return of interest in the Futurist moment.
