oil on canvas, 150×100 cm

Signed and dated lower left P. Conti ’69-71

The first specimen of a long series of variations on this theme, The Woman of the Sea belongs to that “reborn” Conti who, since the 1960s, has begun to offer unprecedented painting. Around the female figure, the sole navigator of this aquatic universe, the fish goes weaving with her a dialogue made of sinuous and circular movements. Here, as if at the center of a particularly intense experience, the red of unprecedented vital heat dominates.
