In this Self-Portrait of 1914 everything seems to conspire in tracing the profile of a maudit painter : the black cloak in the background, the de formation of the face, the confrontation that is established with the environment. Impossible not to think of Edgar Allan Poe, whom Conti was reading at this time and whose portrait he drew.
