Munda Conti, the artist’s wife, was portrayed several times by the painter. This portrait, finished in 1933 and resumed in 1934, is one of the most significant. The vague embarrassment suffused on the face, the gesture of the hand on the chest that seems to respond shyly to an invitation, the detail of the foot peeking out from under the skirt as a faint anchorage of the figure to the ground, all concur in giving us a trepid and palpitating image of the subject, which coincides with the almost unreal sense that emanates from her person.
