oil on canvas, 56×40.8 cm

Signed and dated lower left P. Conti 1933 XI

II Portrait in Pink and Brown is a magnificent example of Conti’s extensive portraiture, when undertaken by him with an autonomous spirit and adherence to the subject, rather than on commission. The quality of the pictorial subject matter and expressive force can undoubtedly make him compare with ancient portraiture, and in particular Goya’s portraiture, which Conti studied again during these years.
