More restrained than its pendant Fruiter, this Ortolan, with the solid carving of planes and volumetry of forms, anticipates Cézanne’s return to the studio du rant 1916. The figure’s “corner position” also hints at more complex modes of spatial articulation, which will develop from this point on.
