Erotic Encounter is an obvious reinterpretation of 1919’s Eros , but it finds its most effective pendant in this period in the work The Friends, which has Sapphic Eros as its theme. There the temperament of the painting is played on the accentuation and accumulation of a passion bordering on a universal condition, here the alternation of light and dark, where each form, rather than being read entirely is allowed to be sensed as a fragment in a vast unknown field, helping to split reality, already polarized into two different moments. And each detail, each piece rejoins the others with absolute freedom, creating, as in poetry, another composition of new form and tension.
