The Primo Conti Foundation is based in the 15th-century Villa “Le Coste,” which was the Maestro’s home for many years. Purchased in 1945, the villa became the headquarters of the Foundation when the latter was established, thanks to a donation from the Conti family, as the Center for Documentation and Research on the Historical Avant-Garde in 1980. The Center represented the realization of Primo Conti’s long cherished dream “to preserve the memory and testimony of the most important Novecento movements.”
The Foundation is divided into two sections:
The Museum of the Works of Primo Conti and the Archives
Taken together, the Museum and Archives represent a unique Center in Italy for retracing and reconstructing with scientific rigor the story of the historical avant-garde that so profoundly connoted the literary and artistic movements of so much of this century of ours. In fact, the Foundation’s privileged objective is the study, promotion and dissemination of the artistic and literary heritage related to the figure of Maestro Primo Conti, flanked by the enhancement of the pictorial, literary, and musical heritage related to the complex period of the Historic Vanguards. To this end, the Foundation is involved each year in study and research projects funded by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, the National Research Council, the Region of Tuscany, the Province and Municipality of Florence, the Municipality of Fiesole and the Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze.
