(Florence, 1878 – therein, 1940), a poet and playwright, journalist and writer, taught for over thirty years at the Galilei Technical Institute in Florence. A friend of Enrico Corradini, he co-founded the nationalist movement and actively participated in Florentine cultural life, frequenting salons, clubs and the local critics, which were crucial to his education. In 1905 he began a constant and assiduous collaboration with the liberal-progressive newspaper “Fieramosca” which ended only with the closure of the newspaper in 1913. In the theatre, his main interest, he made his debut with a comedy “La vittoria dei vinti” (1908), which was followed by “La levata del sole” (1920), “L'elastico” (1920), later reworked with the new title “La novella della luce”, “Marta” (1924) and in his mature years a tragedy “Catilina” (1936), the only work of his published during his lifetime by Vallecchi, the first of a trilogy dedicated to the greatness of Rome, only partially completed by the subsequent “Canossa”. “Annibale”, in fact, the last drama of the trilogy, remained in the planning stage. His vast output, along with his plays, included numerous poems, artistic prose, philosophical and religious essays, thoughts, and reflections, which, after his death, were to be published by Sansoni in the ten volumes of his complete works. The overall editorial project included: Volume VII, the tragedy "Canossa," in 1943, with an introduction by Papini; Volume VIII, "The Narrator Perhaps of Himself," which, in addition to the title story, includes other prose and poetry; Volume IV, the tragedy "The Novella della Luce," in 1944, followed by a long hiatus that ended in 1950 with the publication of the tragedies "La levata del sole," Volume II, and "Il tramonto della luna," Volume VI.
The Fund is divided into the following sections: Correspondence, which collects Tirinnanzi's letters to his wife Maria Marchioni and the correspondence addressed to the couple by various senders; among these, we remember Allodoli, Hermet, Giuliotti, Novelli, Papini, Tilgher, Tumiati, Vallecchi; Manuscripts, which contains autographs and typescripts of Tirinnanzi's theatrical, essayistic and poetic works, together with reviews, articles and notes of various kinds; Press Review, which includes articles by and about Tirinnanzi, published in particular in the “Fieramosca”; Library, which includes Tirinnanzi's published works, some Sansoni catalogues and some works by writer and critic friends; Photo Library, which collects portraits of the writer, his wife and friends, including a portrait of a mature Papini; Various, where personal documents (certificates, attestations, etc.) are stored.
