oil on canvas, 200×149,5 cm
signed and dated lower right '84 P. Conti
The motif of the heraldic figure, which Conti developed for over a decade, is extraordinarily enhanced in the case of Filo a Plumb Line by the painting's unusually large dimensions, which highlight the hieratic nature of the composition. Along the almost invisible axis of the golden thread, which seems to symbolically reunite the intellectual and carnal spheres, the work's high and low, the figure withdraws into itself, accentuating through its position its apparent function as a regulator of human destiny.
