oil on canvas, 29,8×40,2 cm
signed and dated lower left P. Conti '79
The two sketches for The salamander by Luigi Pirandello remain emblematically here, demonstrating the love for theater that Conti has cultivated from adolescence to the present day and, in this case, also his warm friendship with Pirandello and Bontempelli. The protagonist of the work is a talking salamander that unleashes unpredictable wonders.
The skeletal nature of the scenes is related to the archetypal aspects of Pirandello's universe, with which Conti is most immediately in contact.
