oil on canvas, 59×45 cm

signed and dated lower left 1914 U. Conti

In this Self Portrait of 1914 everything seems to conspire in tracing the profile of a painter damn: the black cloak in the background, the distortion of the face, the confrontation with the environment. It's impossible not to think of Edgar Allan Poe, whom Conti was reading during this period and whose portrait he drew.
